In August of each year, a ‘Literacy Summer Camp’ is offered to Gonzaga students. OSSLT Tutorials are also offered, free of charge, after school at Gonzaga, prior to the OSSLT.
The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is a province-wide test written by grade 10 students in Ontario. The purpose of the OSSLT is to determine whether or not students have acquired the literacy (reading and writing) skills that they are expected to have learned by the end of Grade 9, as outlined in The Ontario Curriculum. The OSSLT identifies students who have demonstrated the required literacy skills as well as those who have not demonstrated these skills and need additional instruction and practice (EQAO 2006). Students who are unsuccessful in this year’s test may write the OSSLT a number of times in their secondary school careers. A student who has had at least two opportunities to write the test, and has been unsuccessful at least once, is eligible to take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course.
The administration of the 2007 OSSLT will occur on March 29, 2007.
