The Gonzaga Alternative Program (G.A.P.) is a supplementary academic opportunity in which students work towards obtaining curriculum credits. The key word is alternative. As such, the program is designated to accommodate individualized student needs. It also provides each student with an independent, self-directed learning program with the assistance of a Special Education Teacher.
G.A.P. is available to students who are unable to complete a course for a variety of reasons. These reasons include: prolonged illness, late school registration; timetable conflicts’ IPRC decision’ guidance and/or administration recommendation.
While many courses are available through G.A.P., not all programs are provided. For example, science is not normally offered due to the physical limitations of lab work.
As a result of the wide variety of subjects, grade levels and ability levels offered within G.A.P., the evaluation process can be extremely complex. The G.A.P. teacher grades all students individually. As a result, there are some restrictions on course availability and the maximum capacity of participants within the G.A.P. classroom to ensure attention to individualized student needs.
Admission Process:
The GAP applicant will consult the guidance counselor for the purpose of initiating the referral request. The counselor, with the applicant’s input, will complete the referral request and submit it to the GAP teacher. |
