The Gonzaga War Canoe Teams took part in the 10th Annual Mississauga Canoe Club Regatta yesterday. The Jr. Boat was able to dominate in the B Finals winning their race despite lacking some original crew members. The Sr. Boat was robbed of their victory in the A division Finals in a heart breaking photo finish style race against Cawthra Park. The paddlers dug deep for the last 10 metres, but alas, they were ruled to have finished second by 3 one hundredths of a second.
Congratulations to both boats and Simpson looks forward to next year's team!

Congratulations to the Senior Girls Soccer Team for ending their season on a high note by winning the Father Bressani Tournament. The original 11 girls began their EPIC journey with a win in the dying seconds of the first game courtesy of the ridiculously talented Melissa J. The girls advanced to the quarter finals where Samantha P., Natalie S., Steph D. and Ashley N. played pivotal roles in their victory. In a semi final shoot out, Jung, the lefty Leeann S. and the fearless goalie Britney T. all scored to advance to the finals. With only 10 on the field, Kelly C., Catherine G. and Anjelica P. held Bishop Allen to once again, a shoot out. And Trudel was there too.... however, this time she scored the game winning goal. Lastly, there was the new phenom Lauren H., currently entertaining soccer scholarship offers.

Despite being faced with very long matches and strong opponents, the girls played their very best, but lost in the final matches of the tournament. The Sr. Girls regular play soccer season came to a close yesterday as they lost to a formidable team from Aquinas. Despite scoring first, the girls were unable to hold the lead. Both goals for Gonzaga came courtesy of Ashley B., Melissa J., the quiet leader of the team, hustled and literally bled for Gonzaga. An honorable mention should also be extended to Taylor S. for her strong playing on the back line.

Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Baseball Team on their 4-3 Victory over St. Joseph SS on Monday. The boys’ bats were asleep but they ended manufacturing some runs and depending on the LONG BALL as Sean B hit his first of the season. Brett A pitched a terrific three innings and Adam S came in to complete the game and earn the victory.
The boys will not compete in the 4th Annual Michael Kim Memorial Baseball Tournament on Wednesday and Thursday. Please wish them well!

The Junior Boys Soccer Team posted their first win of the year with a convincing 5-1 thumping of St. Martins. Want to try a different team sport? Ever heard of Dragon Boat Racing? Well, Gonzaga will be competing in the War Canoe High School Challenge. If you like early morning practices and paddling a canoe, than this is your sport! This sport is intense, so no leisurely canoers! The Sr. Girls Soccer Team suffered a loss yesterday loosing 4-2 to Iona. The girls made a strong effort to rally back, but unfortunately ran out of time and stamina. Despite the loss, Samantha P. was instrumental in scoring the two goals, with a nice header from Melissa J.. Stand outs on the defensive end were Alexa C. and Catherine G. The girls have their next game on Thursday against St. Joe's.

The Junior Badminton Team had their first league match against Mount Carmel yesterday. The girls and boys teams both won 8 out of their 13 matches. The coaches would like to give a special mention to doubles teams Matthew and Jeremy; Albert and Andrew; Gloria and Sharon; and Judy and Victoria. Reminder, we have a scheduled practice for tomorrow after school.

This past weekend the senior Boys Soccer Team participated in the Queens Invitational Soccer Tournament. The boys went undefeated until the finals, only to lose to Cardinal Newman 2 to 1. Congratulations to all the boys for their hard work and success.
