Information and Communication Technology: The Digital Environment, Grade 11, Open (BTA3O)

Welcome to the course!  During this year you will be provided with many exciting opportunities to learn about the use of Information Technology both in business and in our communities.  You will learn skills that you will be able to use, not only to complete projects for this class, but for others as well.  Your “job description” as a member of this class is described in this outline.  Follow it closely and you will have the best chance of success!

OVERALL EXPECTATIONS

Digital Literacy

  • Describe the computer workstation environment;
  • Apply appropriate strategies when organizing and managing electronic files and folders;
  • Demonstrate effective use of tools and techniques of electronic research.

Business Communications

  • Communicate using accepted business standards and formats;
  • Demonstrate effective use of electronic communication tools;
  • Create a digital portfolio illustrating their information and communication technology competencies and tools.

E-Business

  • Demonstrate an understanding of e-business concepts and operations;
  • Evaluate the impact of e-business;
  • Design and create an e-business website a target website.

Information and communcation Technology Ethics and Issues

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the legal, social, and ethical issues related to information and communication technology;
  • Analyze privacy and security issues related to conduction business electronically;
  • Summarize health and environmental issues related to the use of information and communication technology.

Productivity Software

  • Demonstrate the use of advanced features of word processing software to produce common business documents;
  • Demonstrate the ability to use advanced features of spreadsheet software to perform a variety of tasks;
  • Manage information, using database software;
  • Demonstrate the ability to use the features of a variety design software applications to perform specific tasks.

Student Notebook
As you journey through this exciting course, you will be supplied with a great deal of information.  Much of this information is to be filed in a BTA notebook.  It is recommended that you use a large three ring binder into which material can be easily inserted.  Please organize your notebook into the following sections:

Unit 1 – DIGITAL LITERACY
Unit 2 – BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS
Unit 3 – E-BUSINESS
Unit 4 - INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHOLOGY ETHICS AND ISSUES
Unit 5 – PRODUCTIVITY SOFTWARE
There will be periodic notebook checks conducted by the teacher.

1.  Knowledge and Understanding (Tests/Quizzes, In-Class Work)    15%

5.  Final Exam (Includes a 10% culminating task)     30%
