DESCRIPTION

Iona's Visual Arts Department is a creative and expressive program. Our Visual Arts Program is designed to offer students an appreciation of Visual Arts through learned skills, theory and most importantly creative and expressive work. The courses provide students with technical skills in a variety of mediums such as drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture and ceramics. Relevant study of theory, history and art analysis will be incorporated into each of the specific classes.

Professional Artists will also be invited to come in and conduct workshops and give insight to students regarding suitable careers.  Classes will experience the Visual Arts through various excursions to galleries, museums, studios and post secondary institutions.

Throughout the program students will have the opportunity to build and develop their portfolio for post secondary school purposes.

Essential skills such as leadership, discipline, focus, creativity, and cooperation are taught through our art form and are based on a strong Catholic foundation. We believe that God gives a different gift to each person and through passion, commitment and dedication our program can develop each student’s artistic aptitude.
