PEER TUTORING:
Students interested in tutoring other students in our community are asked to sign up in Guidance. We are looking for tutors in all subject areas especially Math, Science, English and French. These hours may be used towards your Community Service and/or University/College supplemental application forms.
Students requiring tutoring are asked to fill out a request form in Guidance. Tutoring can take place during lunches or after school. Counsellors and classroom teachers will attempt to match you with student tutor volunteers as they become available.
Students should always ask their classroom teacher for extra help opportunities.
COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS:
Ontario's secondary school program requires all students to complete 40 hours of community involvement in order to graduate. The aim is to encourage students to become actively involved in making positive contributions to their community through service to others.
All grade 9 students are provided with:
1. a passport "Christian Community Passport to the World of Service"
2. a "Passport Companion Parent Resource Manual" (includes contact information for 100 eligible organizations).
The student is encouraged to complete the minimum 40 hours as early as possible in high school, ideally by the end of grade 10. Ministry guidelines have established eligible and ineligible activities for the community involvement requirements. Students and parents must follow these guidelines. If you have any questions about the eligibility of the activity, please ask your consellor before you start.
