The Accelerated Reader Program has been designed to encourage and reward Grade Nine students for reading. Students read books that they choose, write tests based on what they have read, and accumulate points that work towards 5% of their final term mark. There are a variety of books in the program to accomodate various interests and reading levels. Students are encouraged to read their books each day and write the tests immediately after they have finished reading. They are asked to bring their Student Cards and the book they have read to the library when they come to write the test. Grade Nine English teachers are updated weekly with the points that students have accumulated in the program. To encourage friendly competition among Grade Nine readers, prizes are awarded to those students who accumulate the most points in the program at the end of each semester.
