2011 Forest of Reading Winners Announced!
In April, we completed the Forest of Reading Program at Blessed John XXIII Library, and there were some great books this year! This provincial reading program was established in 1994 to encourage Ontario children to read more, learn about Canadian writers and to develop the powers of discrimination. It is the only book award given to a Canadian childrens' author that is voted on only by children! There are several levels for kids of all ages, and this year, Blessed John XXIII students participated in the Blue Spruce, Silver Birch and Silver Birch Express programs. This program was administered by Miss. Romani in the library. Students from JK/SK to Grade 6 had the opportunity to listen and read from recently published books written by a variety of Canadian authors. Listed below are the Provincial (official) results for the favourite books of 2011!
With summer approaching, you may want to refer to this list in order to choose some great books to read over the summer holidays. We want to thank all of our 2011 Forest of Reading participants. You did a wonderful job reading from a great collection of Canadian written literature!
