Social Justice Week-Thank you to Student Council for spearheading our first annual Social Justice Week.
St. Andre Bessette-Pray for Us! On Nov. 1st we celebrated the canonization of St. Andre Bessette and welcomed him into the family of Saints. Our morning began with a brief prayer service over the p.a. followed by the distribution of prayer cards. At lunch time we sang "Happy Saint's Day to You" and had a cake cutting ceremony at the start of each lunch in honour of our beautiful Canadian born saint. Students were then invited to receive a blessing with holy oil from St. Joseph Oratory. The blessing took place on all lunches and was open to both staff and students! What a wonderful act of faith to see our young people come forward for a blessing. Because St. Andre had a strong devotion to our patron saint-we entrust our own intentions to the prayers of St. Andre and St. Joseph!
"One Parish-One Family"-St. Joseph Parish, as part of an Archdiocesan Initiative will be sponsoring a refugee Christian family from Iraq. We look forward to welcoming them in the new year. We invite you to make a donation toward the sponsorship and resettlement of this family as we will be supporting them for one year upon their arrival. A cheque can be made out to: St. Joseph Parish, Memo: One-Parish, One Family and left with the Chaplaincy Department or the Parish office (5440 Durie Rd., Mississauga). Our young people will be involved in various fundraising events to support this family.
A Message from the Principal
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Thank you for choosing to send your son/daughter to a Catholic secondary school. The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is committed to providing quality Catholic education which serves the academic, social, physical and spiritual development needs of our students.
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board includes the teaching of religion, family life, the practice of prayer and worship, and the presence of Gospel values in the curriculum and daily life in the schools. Schools have strong links to parishes and assist parishes with sacramental preparation. The Catholic school system maintains strong links between the home, school and church, and parental participation in the education of students is highly encouraged. These links provide for a natural reinforcement and development of Christian values in the Catholic tradition.
Among other religious expectations, all students are required to enroll in a Religion course in each of their four years; all students will participate in an annual retreat; all students will participate in the prayer and in the liturgical life of the school. Catholic students are expected to participate fully as mandated by their sacramental Baptism. Non-Catholic students are expected to participate to the extent that they can. For supervision, safety, and community reasons, the entire school participates in all of the religious events that occur during the school year. At a minimum, non-Catholic students will attend and maintain respectful silence at all religious observances. All students are encouraged to get involved.
Sincerely,
F. Jacques
Principal
