Anaphylaxis Letter
We would like to inform you that St. Joseph Secondary, is an allergen aware school. There are pupils in attendance who suffer from severe and life threatening allergies to certain foods, such as peanut and nut products. Exposure to the smallest quantities can cause severe life threatening allergic reaction. Anaphylaxis is a severe and life threatening allergic reaction. The most common allergen triggers are food, insect stings, medications, exercise and latex. An anaphylactic reaction involves symptoms from two or more body systems.
We at St. Joseph Secondary would appreciate the co-operation of the entire school community by NOT sending any lunches or snacks that are contain peanut or nut products.
Checklist for Parent(s)/Guardian(s) of an Anaphylactic Student
( ) Arrange meeting with school personnel to exchange information.
( ) Notify school personnel of your child’s allergens in order of severities.
( ) Complete “The Request and Consent Form for the Administration of Epi-Pen in an Emergency Form”.
( ) Provide the school with required number of Epi-Pens and make sure they are not expired.
( ) Consider a Medic Alert bracelet for your child.
( ) Stress with your child and the school staff that only foods from his/her home are to be eaten.
( ) Verify all posted information about your child.
