"Litter-less Thursday's".  Every Thursday, all students and staff are encouraged to bring lunches in reusable containers, and reduce the amount of waste we use in a day.  If we work together, we CAN make a difference!

Lester B. Pearson Catholic Elementary School has been certified as an Ontario Ecoschool at the Silver level 2011.  PLease click link above for more information on the levels of certification.

The Green Committee Presents… The Green Corner!!

For the past year and a half, we here at the Green Corner have been giving you advice on how to be a little greener. We thought we’d take this opportunity to tell you how we here at the school are working hard at being greener ourselves.

For years, we have been recycling our toner cartridges from our photocopiers and printers.  We also reuse and/or recycle computers and other surplus goods by using an environmentally responsible recycler. Our paper products such as toilet paper and paper towel are made from 100% recycled paper, which is supplied by EcoSoft.  We also reuse all large envelopes that are used by our internal mailing system to our board office or to other schools.  One last way we are saving on paper products is by sending our monthly newsletters electronically via email to most parents. We have 393 students, and only print out 30 copies of the school newsletter monthly; that’s less than 10%!!

In terms of our new school building, we are continuing to focus on being more eco-friendly as well.  We chose to refurbish most of our student chairs and desks from our old building instead of purchasing new ones. All of our freestanding wooden shelving from our old library and literacy room was brought over to the new building as well.  Our new building is using a new boiler system, which is more eco friendly by consuming less fossil fuel than our old one. Another eco-friendly system that is being used and is unique to our school is our daylight harvesting lighting system. This unique feature automatically shuts off classroom lights when enough natural light is coming in through the windows.

These are just some ways in which we here at Lester B. Pearson Catholic School are trying to be a little more eco-friendly each day.
