PRINCIPAL GREETINGS

Welcome back to a new school year.  We have had a great start to this new year.  On September 2nd our Grade 9’s were welcomed by their Link Leaders during our Orientation Day. Link Crew is a new initiative we started last year. Our older students are leaders to our newest citizens providing support in every aspect of their school life.  During the year there are many opportunities to connect with each other. As always we enjoyed our annual Pasta Night for Grade 9 students and their families. Girl’s Night In for our Grade 9 girls was a great success.

We welcome new staff to Leger. We also welcome Father Liborio Amaral as the new pastor of St. Mary’s. Welcome to our new Student Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Jared D’Souza. We also welcome back Chris Christidis as Chair of our School council and welcome Vice Chair Ruth Rindinella. Thank you to everyone for coming out to our first meeting and volunteering your time to be part of the council. Welcome back to our NPU officer Chris French and to our newest member, Constable John Stringer.

With the two professional development days in September staff contributed and worked through the School Learning Plan that will be posted on the website. The Board Strategic Plan is also on our website. We continue to provide opportunities for success for all of our students. Our data is proof that we are committed to every student at Leger. Our new Alternative programs also initiated last year were extremely successful and we look forward to continued success and improvement in that area.

We have had a successful Terry Fox walk for cancer research with the majority of our students walking that day. Mayor Susan Fennell, along with Deputy Chief McDonald, Superintendent Bond, Inspectors Marple and Beatty, Sergeant Gill, the fire department, our own NPU officers, and our trustee Tony Da Silva enjoyed the day with our community. We had our first school Mass at St. Mary’s Parish celebrating with the greater community. Father Liborio, Father Ricardo and our own chaplain Father Lozynsky were co-celebrants. We initiated our new Student Government under the leadership of our Prime Minister Jared D’Souza at this Mass. Our Thanksgiving Food Drive was a great success with a mountain of food to be donated to the Knight’s Table.

As you can see we have had a busy month and we look forward to a busy year ahead.  Please check our website for upcoming events. We hope to see you at our sporting events supporting our Lancers as well as other school events.

You may have read in the Brampton Guardian about our continued work to secure a field for Leger for both after school sports teams and our physical education program.  We boast more teams this year thanks to our teacher volunteers who give so generously of their time. We also have many other extra-curricular opportunities for our students.

May each member of our school community be guided by the Holy Spirit in their personal endeavors. Our Grade 9 students will be starting their journey in secondary school while our Grade 12 students will be preparing for graduation and making plans for their future.

As Catholic educators we are committed to educating each child in the teachings of Christ. Students will experience the retreat program and our faith celebrations. At Leger we strive for academic excellence. We also provide rich experiences for students to participate and enjoy the entire life of a secondary school. I encourage each student to get involved in the life of the school.

I ask that our students are good citizens of the Leger community in respecting each other, the school and the neighborhood. Let us all take pride in our school and celebrate the positives in each day. Students, wear your Cardinal Leger uniform with pride!

God bless all of you on your journey.

Dolores Proietti,

Principal
