ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/RESPONSIBILITIES FOR STUDENTS
VISITORS: ALL VISITORS MUST REPORT TO THE MAIN OFFICE
Parents/guardians and others must report to the main office to make arrangements for entering the school premises. Increasing problems caused by trespassers have necessitated a restriction on admission to unauthorized persons. Requests to have friends or visiting relatives of school age accompany students to school are normally not approved. Students are not to invite or associate with unauthorized persons on school grounds during the course of the day.
STUDENT IDENTIFICATION CARDS
All students are required to have their pictures taken on the designated school photo day. Students are then issued a Student Identification Card. Due to increased security concerns, students are to have their Cardinal Léger Student Card with them at all times while on school property. Staff may request individuals on school property to produce their Student Card to ascertain the person is a student of Cardinal Léger. Students are required to adhere to such requests. Persons without a proper Student Card in their possession may be denied certain student privileges and/or denied admission to certain school activities. In cases where it is not possible to ascertain whether or not an individual is a Cardinal Léger student, the individual may be considered as an unauthorized person and dealt with accordingly.
LOCKERS
Students are expected to use the locker assigned to them and are responsible for reporting any damages to the office. Deliberate damage will be repaired at the student’s expense and will result in removal of locker privileges. Students who do not use the locker assigned to them will be in danger of losing their locker privileges.
Students should keep lockers secure at all times. Combination numbers should be kept confidential. Students take responsibility for locker items lost or missing due to a disclosure of combination number to others in the school.
Dudley combination locks with a serial number are the only locks approved for use in this school. Students will purchase locks from the school.
Lockers remain the property of the school and are loaned to students to use throughout the school year. Lockers may be entered at any time by the administration. Lockers must be cleared of contents at the end of the academic year in June.
CONSUMPTION OF FOOD/DRINK
Food is to be eaten in the cafeteria area only. There is to be no eating/drinking in classrooms, library, gym, hallways, washrooms, etc. In order to keep the building and grounds clean, you are expected to be part of the total team which keeps the school in orderly fashion. Every consideration and assistance should be given to the cafeteria and custodial staff. Students may not bring food purchased from “fast food” outlets into the school cafeteria.
STUDENT PARKING
Students wishing to park at school must have a valid parking pass displayed at all times. These are available from the main office. The City of Brampton will ticket or tow unauthorized vehicles.
No loitering is allowed in the parking lot. Students are not allowed to sit in cars to have lunch or to congregate in and around the parking lot. No smoking is allowed inside vehicles in the parking lot or anywhere on school property. Drivers must abide by all traffic laws.
ACCIDENTS
If a student is injured while at school or in conjunction with any school activity, please have someone contact the school office so that we can arrange for help. Make sure that an Accident Report form is completed as soon as possible. This form is for the student’s protection and is available at the main office.
FIRE DRILLS
The main dangers in the event of fire are usually panic and the fear of not knowing what to do or where to go. The following regulations are vitally important:
1. observe the sign in every room indicating the main and alternate exit to be used;
2. leave the building when the fire alarm sounds;
3. walk quickly and quietly; do not run or push;
4. assemble with your teacher and class at least fifty feet from the building for attendance; remain outside until you hear the school bell ring twice.
LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES
Upon determining that a high risk incident may unfold, the school principal or designate will notify staff and students that they must initiate precautionary measures by announcing “INITIATE LOCKDOWN PRODEDURES’ over the P.A. system, followed by the “repeated ringing of the school bell.”
The school Principal or designate will call 911 to alert the police.
Students and each staff member in charge of a group of students should (whether in class or on duty elsewhere) will take the following action upon hearing the above announcement:
1. all student and staff inside the building should go to the closest room and close the door;
2. all students and staff once in the room should lay on the floor away from doors and windows;
3. all students and staff in the room are to remain on the floor until further instructions are provided;
4. all students and staff that are outside of the building are to quickly move as far away from the building as possible and remain there until further instructions are provided.

The fee for overdue books: $0.15/day OR $5.00 max/book.
SMOKING
NO TOBACCO PRODUCTS ARE PERMITTED ON SCHOOL PROPERTY
Smoking is not permitted on school property at any time. Any student smoking within the building or on the school grounds will be suspended, and the Health Department will be notified. Students who are with others who are smoking will also face disciplinary action. Students who are in possession of lighters or who ignite lighters inside the school building will face disciplinary action. Tobacco products in the possession of students will be confiscated.
PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES (P.E.D.’S)
(e.g. pagers, cellular phones, mp3’s, pda’s, digital cameras, etc.)
In keeping with our desire to promote respect for self and others during the school day, students are not permitted to use P.E.D.’s in the school building during the school day. They must be turned off and kept in their locker. However they are strongly encouraged to leave these and other valuables at home on school days and during field trips for their own security. Failure to comply may result in these items being confiscated.
LASER POINTERS, SKATEBOARDS AND SCOOTERS
Laser pointers, skateboards and scooters are not permitted at Cardinal Léger.
VALUABLES
You should not bring valuables or large sums of money to school. The school is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
