St. Leonard is proud to be an Eco Certified Green School!

Eco Fest 2012 was a success!

On April 17, 2012, St. Leonard's Green Team hosted the first ever eco conference for Brampton North East Schools.  On this inaugural event, student representatives from 20 schools in our Family participated in a fun filled, exciting and inspiring day.  Together, with the help of a dozen community partners including; Earth Rangers, Region of Peel, Brampton Clean City, Eco Spark, Forestry Division, Tutoured by Nature, and many more, we learned about the many ways we can become better stewards of God's beautiful earth.

The day consisted of opening ceremonies, special guest Mr. Leo O'Brien, a liturgy, several workshops and a tree planting ceremony to wrap up the day.

Please click on the Eco Fest page on the side panel for photos and more details.

Thanks for helping us make our first Waste Free Lunch week a great success.  We reduced our waste by over 80%.  Next up, our first paper drive.  On November 10, from 8:15 - 8:30 am bring in all your newspapers, magazines and mail and the Green Team will drop it in our paper bin.

Thanks for helping the Green Team reduce our footprint on the planet!

Green Team News for 2011

WE DID IT!  We are officially an Eco School.  In June of 2011 we received the exciting news that St. Leonard's has reached Silver Eco status due to the number of green intitatives that we  participated in during the school year.  We reached our green goals by reducing our waste, conserving energy, greening our school yard, and educating our student body and community.

Thank you to all our dedicated Green Team members and to Mr. Romanet, Mrs. Condotta, Miss Nancy, Miss Troina and Mrs. Kennett for their support and hard work!

More Green News

On November 10, Brampton Clean City came to help the Green Team conduct a garbage audit.  During the audit we realized that we need to cut down on the amount of garbage we create as a school.  The Green Team is planning to hold an assembly to share the information we learned from the garbage audit and develop a school wide action plan for reducing, reusing and recycling.

One of the ways we can cut down significantly on the amount of waste we create at school is to hold Litterless Lunch Days.  Litterless lunches mean that the students will not create any garbage from their snacks or lunches.  They can do this by bringing their drinks and snacks in reusable containers.  Any leftovers will be returned home that day to be composted.  Our first Litterless Lunch Day is schedule for Friday, November 19.  Please stay tuned for more information about our first Litterless Lunch Day at St. Leonard's.

Our fall bulb planting project was a huge success.  Thank you to our parent Council for lending their support and even their hands.  A special thank you to Mr. Barnes for donating the soil and the City of Brampton for donating mulch.  Please check out the photos from the 2010 bulb planting at the side bar.
