Community Service Hours

For information about volunteer opportunities, go to http://www.volunteeringpeel.org/

Completing 40 hours of community service is a graduation requirement.

For graduating students, these hours must be submitted by Friday, April 2, 2010, shortly after the March Break and the long Easter weekend.

Not submitting documentation of your community service hours on time will result in a delay in issuing your high school diploma.  Also, you will not be able to proceed to university or college until this requirement is met.

The following are examples of noneligible activities:

o       walking your neighbour's dog

o       babysitting young children at home or for your neighbour

o       working for your family's, neighbour's or friend's business

o       activities related to hobbies, e.g. skateboarding

o       working for a for-profit organization

Eligible activities include:

o       working for a food bank, a charitable organization, a church

o       raising funds for a cause, e.g. cancer research, etc.

o       must be for a NON-PROFIT agency

If in doubt, ask your guidance counsellor.
