  Accelerated Reader Enterprise Software

Introduction

All students in grades 9 to 12, through the English classes, participate in the Accelerated Reader program which is designed to build a reading culture in our school and make reading practice more effective. Students read books at their own level and answer content-based quizzes.

Why ARP?

The Accelerated Reader program will help: advance reading, comprehension and critical-thinking skills; encourage the love of reading; inculcate independent reading and provide more opportunities for reading books of interest outside the class list; encourage students to read more carefully; build a sense of achievement; and generally prepare students for literacy tests.

How does it work?

The process is very easy.

Step 1

The teacher-librarian and the class teacher conduct an orientation for each participating class.

Step 2

Each student chooses his or her own book to read.

Step 3

The student reads the book independently

Step 4 After completely reading the book, the student takes a computer-generated multiple choice quiz under a teacher’s supervision.
Step 5

The computer generates feedback on the test for the student. Students are to share the test results with their teacher and parents.

Marking/Grading

All students are required to read books from our school library collection.

ARP is a point system. The number of points required depends on the grade and level of the student. Each student must acquire desired points for his or her grade and course level to earn 8% of the student's final grade in English. Students are giving some class time during their English class to read their ARP books.
