ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY

It is the responsibility of each student to be in attendance at all classes and scheduled activities, on time, and with the proper materials required for full participation. Students who habitually miss class will suffer in the evaluation process because their participation and achievement cannot be fully accessed. Students must remain on school property at all times unless permission is granted to leave the school. Full attendance during recess and physical education activities is expected unless a doctor's note is submitted. Students must have a teacher's permission to enter the school during recess.

PROCEDURES:

If a student is to be absent/late, the parent or guardian is requested to phone the school, give the name of the student, grade, teachers name, and reason for absence/lateness. Students who arrive late, return from being absent, or need to arrive late must report to the office to retrieve their attendance cards and request a late pass. These procedures will help ensure the safe arrival of all students.

RESPECT FOR STAFF MEMBERS

Students are expected to follow the directions of all staff members, speak politely, and display good manners with all adults at school.

RESPECT FOR OTHERS

At our school, we believe that every student has the right to freedom from harassment with regard to race, colour or special need. In keeping with the Dufferin-Peel C.D.S.B. Race Relations Policy, we will not tolerate any expression of physical, psychological, or verbal abuse directed toward any student or staff members. Students will continue to be provided with curriculum opportunities to promote understanding and appreciation for the value of every individual.

FIGHTING AND HARASSMENT

Students are encouraged to resolve disagreements in an appropriate manner, which insures the dignity and safety of others. Harassment is defined as any unwelcome comment or conduct that intimidates, demeans or offends someone. Students must not harass others physically or verbally.

DANGEROUS ARTICLES AND ACTIVITIES

Dangerous articles are not permitted at school. Examples of dangerous articles include: replicas of guns, knives and other sharp objects and wooden baseball bats. Dangerous activities such as snowball throwing and the throwing of stones are also not permitted.

DRESS CODE

Students are expected to dress in a manner that is clean and modest, suitable for the occasion and appropriate to the school environment. Students should dress in good taste, which means that clothing is to be free from offensive or questionable language and pictures. Hats should be removed in the school building. Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times. The following clothing is not suitable for school: tank and halter tops, muscle shirts, short shorts, inappropriately tight-fitting clothing, cut-off shorts, miniskirts. Clothing that is acceptable for a six-year old student may not be appropriate for a thirteen-year old student. Appropriate clothing must be worn for physical education classes: running shoes, gym shorts or sweat pants, t-shirt or sweat shirt and sweat socks.

Teachers will speak to students regarding clothing which represents a counter-Christian morality. Teachers may also contact parents regarding the need for the student to be taken home to change clothing which is inappropriate.
