Student Success Program

At the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year, the Ministry of Education mandated that each Ontario high school have a Student Success Teacher (SST) on staff. The main purpose of the SST role is to help identify and track individuals who have “risk factors” in an effort to improve graduation rates, decrease early leaver or drop-out rates, and enhance program pathways for students. The purpose of the Student Success Program is to create a unified effort within the school and community to help encourage students to stay in school and to succeed in our educational system.

Programs at our School
Credit Rescue- A program whereby students attempt to catch up in currently scheduled courses that they are not passing at midterm. Credit Rescue usually occurs on the student’s scheduled lunch period. Students must sign-in and work on completing their outstanding assignments for half of their lunch period.
Credit Recovery- An opportunity for students to make-up credits that they did not pass in previous years. Admission into this program is based on an application, an interview, and a team meeting. Credit recovery is scheduled on the student’s timetable. Students use this period to work on expectations that they did not achieve in the course in their first attempt. Students must commit to the program, follow the established learning plan, and attend all of their classes on a regular basis in order to be successful in Credit Recovery.
