COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This course introduces students to information and communication technology in a business environment and builds a foundation of digital literacy shills necessary for success in a technologically driven society. Students will develop word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, presentation software, and website design skills. Throughout the course, there is an emphasis on digital literacy, effective electronic research and communication skills, and current issues related to the impact of information and communication technology.

Evaluation is designed to determine if the expectations of the course have been met, and to determine student response to the curriculum.  In accordance with the Ministry Guideline, the following is the breakdown in evaluation in this course:

Evidence of student achievement for evaluation is collected over time from 3 different sources – observations, conversations, and student products (i.e. Tests, quizzes, projects, assignments, presentations). Teachers will weigh all evidence of student achievement and will use both mathematical calculations and their professional judgment to determine the student’s report card grade.

CLASSROOM POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Student Expectations: Successful completion of the BTT1O course is dependent on:

 

ATTENDANCE

·         Arrive to class on time and prepared.  This means always bringing your textbook, notebook,  pen, pencil and eraser with you.  The student is required to wear the proper uniform and adhere to the school’s code of accepted behaviour.

·         Attendance and Punctuality.  Attendance is a vital part of any course.  Attend class daily and be on time!

·         Missed material.  It is your responsibility to catch up on any work missed due to illness or school-related absence. This will help to keep you up to date.

PLAGIARISM

·         It is theft to use the words or ideas of any other person as if they were your own, without acknowledging the source.  This applies to any written work or visual source, which includes computers, the Internet, etc.  Cheating on tests, quizzes and exams is also a form of plagiarism.  PLAGIARISM IS A SERIOUS ACADEMIC OFFENCE.  STUDENTS WHO ARE GUILTY OF THIS OFFENCE INVITE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES such as suspension from school.

HOMEWORK

·         Complete all assigned homework. Homework is assigned to assist in your learning. Hook up with a Homework Buddy (or two).  Get the phone number of one or two reliable friends in class that you can call if you are absent to find out what you have missed, get the homework assignment and borrow the day’s notes to copy should you miss a lesson.  You are responsible for any missed work due to absence!

NOTEBOOK

·         Notebooks must be kept up-to-date and organized.  Organize your notebook in sections based on the Course Outline.

LATE SUBMISSIONS

·         Late assignments.  An assignment must be handed in the day it is due.  It will be considered late after that time.  A mark reduction of 10% will be applied to all  assignments submitted late.    If the assignment is not submitted  a mark of zero will be assigned. 

TESTS/MISSED TESTS

·         Students are expected to be present for all tests.

·         If a student knows in advance that he/she will be away for a test, he/she must inform the teacher ahead of time with the valid reason PRIOR to the test date and make alternate arrangements.

·         If a student is away on the day of a test, it is the student’s responsibility, immediately upon his/her return (within 24 hours), to make the necessary arrangements to complete the test.  Until the test is written (within 24 hours), a mark of 0% is recorded.

·         NO test marks will be dropped and NO rewrites will be permitted.

NOTE:  Medical appointments should be made after school hours.

IN ADDITION 

·         I am available if you require extra assistance…please ASK! Additional time can be arranged through mutual agreement with individual students and the teacher.

·         RESPECTFUL interaction is essential for successful completion of this course

·         NO FOOD, DRINKS OR PEDs/CELLPHONES IN THE CLASSROOM!!!

COMPUTER USE

·         Handle the equipment with care! Inappropriate use of the computer will result in canceling your computer privileges and reporting the incident to the principal and your parent/guardian. Inappropriate use includes vandalism, using someone else’s logon id/password, copying another student’s work and visiting inappropriate websites.
