WHITE PINE READING CLUB

The White Pine Reading Club is sponsored by the Ontario School Library Association.  Students can choose to read from a selection of 10 nominated Canadian young adult books, and then vote for their favourite.  Based on student voting across the province, the most popular book is selected and the author is honoured with the White Pine Award. The goals of the club are to promote reading for enjoyment, to expose students to quality Canadian books, and to give students an opportunity to discuss the books they have read.  Students will be notified some time in November when the books have arrived and will be encouraged by the library staff to come and sign up.

Last year the White Pine Reading Club had 16 members.  The book which received the most votes within the club was Eric Walter's Shattered, which was honoured the White Pine Award.

Scrappy Mustangs

Students are encouraged to come and join the SMSS Scrapbooking Club on Mondays after school.  The Cricut cutting machine and over 40 cartridges are available for student and staff use.  An activity fee is charged for materials supplied.
