Year Three!

2009-2010

We have a new Principal! Mrs. K. DiPasquale was appointed principal of Father Francis McSpiritt, for the Fall of 2009.

We also became part of a new family!  In the Fall of 2009, Father Francis McSpiritt became part of the new Brampton Northeast Family of Schools.  The superintendent for this new family is Mr. A. Tucciarone.

In September we continued our annual tradition of holding the Terry Fox walk to raise money for cancer research.

In October of 2009, our enrolment rose to 410 students and Mr. Paul Gastaldin was appointed as half-time vice-principal.

We used our annual Hallowe'en dance as a fundraiser for Share Life, with dancing for all and games for the primary students.

We ran several initiatives during Advent to help the needy:  a food drive for the Knights Table, a mitten tree, a toy drive for the Toys for Tots program, and an opportunity for every student to decorate an ornament for the wall of the foyer.

We had several fundraising events to help the victims of a catastrophic earthquake in Haiti.

In February, the grade 8s held their own fundraiser and delivered hundreds of candygrams for Valentine's Day.

Pancakes! Pancakes!  Let's hope this is a new tradition!  On Shrove Tuesday, parent volunteers, assisted by the student council, served about 2000 pancakes to 400 students!

The 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver inspired us to make our winter playday an Olympic event of our own.  Student teams, led by the grade 7s, made their country flag and marched in their own procession.  Grade 8s ran the events and kept score, and members of the winning countries received "bronze", "silver" and "gold" medallions.

Welcome back! In March, Mrs. Farrar returned from maternity leave. Our grade 2s were busy preparing for First Communion, and our grade 8s for Confirmation, with classes and retreats. Our dance teams were heading off to competition, and sports teams continued to keep busy.

Our dance teams placed first and second, continuing a tradition of excellence in the arts at Fr. McSpiritt.  The Soccer World Cup was held in South Africa in June of 2010, and we held our Spring playday with a "World Cup" theme.  Teams were made up to represent the different countries and the fierce but friendly competition took most of the day.

First Communion and Confirmation were celebrated in the Spring, and we ended the year with a closing Mass followed by a barbecue.

We said goodbye to our first vice-principal, Mr. Paul Gastaldin who was promoted to principal, and moved to St. John Fisher School for September.  One of our first year alumni moved and she will be greatly missed: Mrs. Barbosa transferred to a school in Brampton West for the fall of 2010.

And finally, we have a new vice-principal! Mrs. Julie Lavalle was welcomed as our second vice-principal, to begin September.
