Good day. Mr. Lariviere Head of the Guidance Department here with some important updates for our senior students and their families.

1.       This past Friday, 82 Gr. 11 students heard exciting information about the Degree Programs offered at Humber, Sheridan, George Brown, Seneca, Georgian and  Centennial. The students will bring home follow up info for these degree programs that they received from the reps and yet another opportunity for post-secondary research.

2.       St. Mike’s will be giving our academic Gr. 11 students an opportunity to attend University of Guelph on Wed. Apr. 25 to spend time attending lectures, taking a campus tour and having lunch. Info sheets were distributed Friday afternoon. If your son/daughter did not receive one, please contact the Guidance Department.

3.       Next Wednesday March 28 the Thunderbus has spaces for 18 Gr.11 students to attend the Apprenticeship Career Connections Fair at the International Centre. Info packages are available in the Guidance Office starting Monday. This is a first come first serve opportunity.

4.       Finally, there are still about 33 students who have not registered for courses for next year. Please make sure your son/daughter has registered.

Have a great week-end!!!

Voice Mail- Saturday October 22 2011

Good morning. This is Mr. Lariviere Head of Guidance and Career Education at St. Michael C.S.S. This message is specifically for the parents of Grade 11 students interested in applying to community college next year and also for all of our parents of Grade 9 students.

Next Tuesday October 25 , the Ontario College Fair will be held at the Direct Energy Building at Exhibition Place in Toronto from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. We are strongly recommending that you attend this event with your sons and daughters to get a heads-up on the College Programs available in Ontario.  You will meet admissions reps who will answer questions about program descriptions, admissions requirements, residence, scholarships and financial aid. This event is a must as you prepare to invest in the futures of your sons and daughters. Additional information is available on the school web-site.

If you are a parent of a Grade 9 student, you need to know that all of our Grade 9 students attended mini-assemblies this past Wednesday and Thursday to receive information about the Take Our Kids to Work Program that is coming up on Wednesday November 2. Over 200,000 grade 9 students across Canada will be spending a day at work, job shadowing a parent, relative or close family friend. The students will then do a follow-up activity which will be part of their Grade 10 Career Studies Program next year. Please read over the information sheets your sons and daughters brought home this week and discuss the program with them. Could you also complete the Consent Form and return it to the attention of your sons’ and daughters’ Homeroom Teacher by Friday October 28. Additional information is available on the school web-site.

See you at the Football games this afternoon at Robert F. Hall starting at 12:00 p.m. Go Thunder!!!
