PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome to the St. Nicholas Catholic School Website and a special welcome to those who are visiting our website for the first time. St. Nicholas School  is a Catholic Learning Community committed to providing our students with opportunities for spiritual development and excellence in academic achievement in a safe, caring, inclusive and healthy environment. We are blessed to be part of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, in the Brampton East/Caledon/Dufferin/Malton Family of Schools, and to belong to Holy Family Parish.

St. Nicholas School is home to approximately 790 students, of diverse backgrounds, in Kindergarten to grade 8. The school, situated on the west side of Hwy. #50 in Bolton, Ontario, opened its doors in September of 2003. Ours is a modern facility, equipped with a gymnasium including a stage, a library/resource centre with a full computer lab, and two literacy rooms. An addition comprising 6 classrooms was added to the school in 2007.

St. Nicholas School was established to support Catholic parents in their responsibility for the spiritual, religious, moral, academic and physical growth of their children in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ. The school community at St. Nicholas School is committed to work in partnership with the greater community to provide an environment which stresses equity and dignity, and which fosters the value and the uniqueness of the individual and the education of the whole person. We are rooted in the belief that each student has his or her own unique patterns of learning and that all students can succeed We are guided by and mindful of  Ministry of Education mandates, School Board direction, and the need for transparency and accountability.

The school motto, "faith, understanding, peace," was chosen through a consultative process and reflects a holistic philosophy where religion and daily life are harmonized. All activities at St. Nicholas School are a reflection of this credo: academic and pastoral work, student engagement, extracurricular and co-curricular activities, administration and management – all of these work together to help to prepare our students for their lives as Catholics Christians in the community. Our students come to us, each one called by name, with a variety of strengths and needs, with their Catholic faith as their common bond. The curriculum planned and provided in the school is broad, balanced and relevant to the needs and aspirations of all our students. A wide range of subjects and learning experiences are offered to develop the skills, abilities and talents of individual students. Subjects are taught in accordance with the Ontario Curriculum within the context of working toward the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations. Accordingly, appropriate assessment and evaluation procedures are employed regularly to motivate and encourage student growth and success, with a view to supporting all students in becoming self-motivated life-long learners,

We encourage you, wherever and whenever possible, to become involved in St. Nicholas School.   Frequent our school website as we continue to grow our on-line presence in an effort to communicate, support, and celebrate learning.

May the Lord bless you and your families throughout this school year.

E. Fischer, Principal
