Bus Cancellations and School Closings
During the winter months, inclement weather may cause the disruption of bus transportation. A decision to cancel school buses or to close schools is usually made by 6:30 a.m. and announced on various radio and television stations. There are 4 different bus announcements and only two apply to Our Lady of Mercy School. Please note only announcements #3 and #4 apply to Our Lady of Mercy School.
- Dufferin-Peel school buses are cancelled in the County of Dufferin.
- Dufferin-Peel and Peel Board buses in the town of Caledon & County of Dufferin are cancelled.
- Dufferin-Peel and Peel District School Board buses are cancelled.
- The schools and offices of both the Dufferin-Peel & Peel District School Boards are closed.
When the buses are cancelled in the morning, they will not be running in the afternoon (even if the weather improves). If you drive your child to school in the morning, please be sure to make transportation arrangements for your child to go home at 3:15 p.m. At times, the weather conditions degrade as the day goes on, and what was acceptable weather to drive in at 8:30 a.m. is unacceptable at 3:15 p.m. When conditions are poor, we get many telephone inquires about the lateness or arrival time of the school bus. Weather conditions will slow the buses considerably. The side streets, where most of our students live, are usually the last to be cleared by the snow plows and this along with cars unable to travel well in the snow, will hold up the buses.
