Exchange Opportunities
_________________________________________________________
SWSE is a national, non-profit exchange program offering 16- and 17-year-old youth the opportunity to improve their second official language skills while also gaining valuable work experience through a paid placement in the non-profit sector. For six weeks during the summer, participants live with a host family and work in a community where French predominates; at the same time, their own family usually hosts their French-speaking counterpart in Ontario. They travel with a group of peers, and take part in activities every weekend to deepen their connection to each other and their new community. Students, families, and employers benefit from the direct support of a YMCA Local Coordinator.
SWSE is a non-profit exchange funded by Exchanges Canada (Department of Canadian Heritage), and is offered at minimal cost ($50) to the participants.
I would very much like to have a chance to speak with the students at your school about this opportunity for summer 2010. I would specifically like to target students taking French in grades 10 to 12. The presentation would take approximately 15 minutes of your class time. Would it be possible to schedule a visit to your school sometime next week?
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you!
