School Library Facilities
Welcome to Pocock’s School Library!
The School Library is a large, split-level room located almost exactly in the centre of the school, with space for two classes at a time as well as students on lunch/spare.
Arrangements for use of the School Library during the school day are made through the Teacher-Librarian.
Two classes per period can be booked into the School Library. Each class can be assigned 10 computers. Check the Bookings Binder for availability and contact the Teacher-Librarian to make bookings. Please be aware that bookings sometimes come in faster than this binder can be updated!
The School Library Seminar Room is available for small groups. Check the Bookings Binder for availability and contact the Library staff to make bookings. Please be aware that bookings sometimes come in faster than this binder can be updated! Please note that the Seminar Room is often used on a regular basis as an office for support staff, who have to be given priority of access.
Arrangements for use of the School Library after hours are made through the main office and may require a school use permit. Contact Pocock’s Receptionist at 905-602-6172.
School Library Equipment
Computers
The School Library has 25 computers available for student use. Up to 10 computers can be reserved for a class. Every effort is made to ensure at least 5 computers are available for students on lunch/spare, even when classes are using the School Library. These computers provide access to the Internet as well as a number of applications which support student learning.
Printer
A black and white laser printer is available in the School Library for student use. Printing costs 10¢ per page for text and 20¢ per page for graphics.
Photocopier
A photocopier is available in the School Library for student use. This photocopier is coin-operated and copying costs 10¢ per page.
Data Projectors
Two data projectors are available and can be booked through the School Library by teachers or students. The projectors are set up on mobile carts, with computers (i.e. you don't need a laptop - and are not permitted to use personal equipment). There is a network cable inside the cart and a network drop in every classroom (a 50' cable is available for use in the cafeteria or gym). Users must be able to log in to the board network. Check the Bookings Binders (Cart 1, Cart 2) for data projector availability and contact the Library staff to make bookings. Please be aware that bookings sometimes come in faster than this binder can be updated!
USB Keys
USB keys are available for loan from the School Library.
Cross-Curricular Computer Lab
The School Library also takes care of bookings for the school’s cross-curricular lab computer lab (room 306). The lab includes 19 computers and a printer (teachers booking the lab provide their own paper). Check the Bookings Binder for availability and contact the Library staff to make bookings. Please be aware that bookings sometimes come in faster than this binder can be updated!
