Phillip Pocock Catholic Secondary School student wins National French Public Speaking Competition
Madeline Dodds wins a $20,000 scholarship from Canadian Parents for French and the University of Ottawa 

On May 29, Madeline Dodds, a Grade 12 student from Phillip Pocock Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga, won a $20,000 scholarship in the Concours d’art oratorie, presented by Canadian Parents for French (CPF), in partnership with the University of Ottawa. This annual French-speaking competition tests secondary school students’ proficiency in French at the national level. Madeline, who won in the Late Immersion category, impressed the judges with a thought provoking speech on the American healthcare system.

Madeline will present her award-winning speech to Dufferin-Peel’s Board of Trustees at the Catholic Education Centre on Monday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m.

Andrew De Zen (Grade 11) has won second prize in a video contest sponsored by WSIB.  He received his award at 10:45 on Tuesday May 25 in Room 304.  Several classes and staff attended the ceremony.  He won $1,500 personally and the school is awarded $1,500.  Amazing! Successful Day at Skills Competitions!

Regional Skills Competitions were held on March 25, 2010 at St. Aloysius Gonzaga secondary school. The following students represented our school in various competition areas:

Reminder: To graduate with an OSSD, students must complete 40 hours of Community Service. Community Service hours must be recorded on the transcript in order to graduate. Passports must be submitted to Guidance by April 1, 2010 for this year's Graduation.
