As part of our Safe, Caring and Inclusive School plan please find information on this page relating to Anaphylaxis at Sts. Peter and Paul School. All members of our community are called to work together to help insure the safety and well being of all our students. Please see the link below for information regarding anapylaxis at Sts. Peter and Paul.
Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that can be life threatening. Food is the most common cause of anaphylaxis, but insect stings, medicine, latex, or exercise can also cause a reaction.
It has been estimated that more than 600,000 or 1% to 2% of Canadians are at risk of anaphylaxis (from food and insect allergy). More recent studies suggest that nearly 4% of the US population, or 1 in 25 Americans, is at risk for food allergy alone, a rate much higher than noted in the past. Canadian trends are thought to mirror those of the US, given similarities in lifestyle. Food allergy affects up to 6% of young children in North America. (Source: www.allergysafecommunities.ca )
At Sts. Peter and Paul we have students with life threatening anaphlactic allergies to: nuts and nut products, tree nuts, sesame seed and sesame products, and fish (including shell fish). Please find below a link to the anaphylaxis plan for Sts. Peter and Paul School.
