As we begin this new school year, we usually discover that changes have occurred. New teachers and staff, new students, new procedures and curricular initiatives, etc., capture our attention and energy. But soon enough we are usually able to integrate these changes into a new “flow” that will become normative for us. But as many are aware of, a change will be occurring on the First Sunday of Advent that will become the new “norm” for us as far as participation at Mass is concerned. This will affect all of the churches where English is the liturgical language in use, and it will affect all Masses that are said (for any occasion) after November 27th of this year.
In order to understand why these changes are occurring, and to be better prepared for them, each week we will be including an insert that will hopefully give good background and information as to the changes that will be forthcoming. These inserts have been provided by Archdiocese of Toronto, and we have been encouraged to share them with you.
So we will start off this course of action by tackling the basic question everyone seems to have regarding these changes: “Why?” The attached first insert explains why a new translation of the Roman Missal (the official book that contains the prayers and rubrics of our Eucharistic liturgy) is occurring. More will follow, so please take the time to read and review them in the coming weeks so that we will all be ready to pray, united, with heart, spirit and voice...
