Language is one of the greatest empowering forces given to human beings by God. When the power of language has been used to create works of art, we call this literature, and great literature points to where our powers can lead us. The ENGLISH classroom is a place where this power is cultivated through reading, writing, speaking and listening.

News From the Classroom During the first week of January 2012, Ms. Mattachini’s Film students were treated to a surprise visit from movie director, and former Hall student, Sean Cisterna and actress Paula Brancati (Degrassi, Being Erica, Dark Oracle).  They were here to critique the students’ entries to a film competition associated with Moon Point, Sean and Paula’s current feature film.  The top entries will be screened during a Red Carpet Event at the Royal Theater in Toronto February 2nd.   The winning film will appear on the Moon Point DVD which will be released nationwide this spring.  Sean and Paula spent the period discussing the films with the students and answering questions about working in the industry.  Sean later sent a note congratulating students on the “high caliber of their work,” and assuring them he would contact winners in the next week.
