Model reading for pleasure.

Ask your child about what he/she is reading in school.

Subscribe to a newspaper and/or magazine.

Discuss favourite books (new and older) with your child.

Visit a local book store to browse with your child.

Apply for a library card; ensure that your child has one also.
Visit the School Library’s home page to explore the databases, sites, and reviewed books from home.
Check for available book titles and reserve books from home.
Check the numerous databases and links offered by the Public Library.
Give a Chapters/Indigo/Coles gift card or local book store gift certificate to your child on special occasions.
Subscribe your child to a magazine of his or her choice that reflects his or her interests. e.g. Sports Illustrated, Hockey News, Flare, Faze. etc.
Have various types of reading materials available at home e.g. novels, non-fiction, comic strip anthologies, comic books, graphic novels, periodicals
