Welcome to St. Rita School

St. Rita Catholic Elementary School, with an enrolment in 2010-2011 of approximately 730 students, is located at 30 Summer Valley Drive (Brampton), on the site of the pioneer homestead of Bartholomew and Phoebe Snell (1839 – 1871), in the historic community of Snelgrove. The school opened in September 2003 and was blessed on June 1, 2004.

St. Rita School is named in honour of St. Rita of Cascia, a member of the Augustinian Sisters who was canonized in 1900 and whose feast is celebrated on May 22nd. While praying before a crucifix in 1442, Rita was ‘marked’ on her forehead by a thorn from the crown of Jesus Christ, a wound she bore until the day she died. As a faith community, the school has embraced St. Rita’s virtues, as a ‘Peacemaker’ and the ‘Saint of the Impossible’.

St. Rita School is an active member of the St. Leonard Parish. The school’s motto "Putting Our Faith into Action" is brought to life in the many outreach opportunities afforded to staff, students and their families through annual food, clothing and teddy bear drives as well as the Board’s United Way campaign and the parish’s ShareLife campaign. Monthly virtues/Future Aces assemblies celebrate, recognize and foster student faith and leadership.
