St. Margaret of Scotland elementary school, located at 2266 Council Ring Road, was blessed on November 15, 1998, by Fr. John Facey of St. Francis Assisi Parish. Prior to that, the school had been known as Pierre Laporte Catholic Elementary School; it had opened in 1972 and was the first Catholic elementary school in Erin Mills. The school was renamed when it was rebuilt in 1997–1998.

St. Margaret of Scotland has a student population of approximately 400 children. Its motto is “Wiser––Braver—Kinder.” The school’s mission is “to assist each and everyone of our school community to grow in wisdom, caring and courage. We strive as did our patron saint, to help all become strong and gentle messengers of God’s love.”22

The school strives to follow its mission statement through various outreach activities. Staff and students contribute to the parish St. Vincent de Paul, and collect food at Christmas and Thanksgiving. Because they are mindful of charity at home, they often have special collections for local families in need.

As Pierre Laporte, the building was also a holding school for a French school, which shared space at different times with St. Clare and St. Mark elementary schools and Loyola Catholic Secondary School. The building, which was designed for approximately 300 students, at one time housed more than 1100 with the aid of portables and a portapak. Pierre Laporte and neighbouring Brookemede Public School planted trees along their boundaries, which have grown into a mini forest enjoyed today by St. Margaret of Scotland students and staff.
