If you are new to grade one or looking for ways to invigorate your current practice, this session is for you. This session will be a fun and interactive guide to developing an effective grade one program, including classroom organization, PAR, balanced literacy and literacy block activities, specific curriculum ideas and assessment and evaluation techniques. You will be provided with resources for the first week, specific assessments across the curriculum, balanced literacy lessons, parent communication strategies and assistance with a combined 1/2 grade. This best practice session will prepare you for a “great beginning”.

Whether you are new to grade three or looking for some new ideas to refresh your current program, this session is for you. Come and join an engaging hands-on session that will provide you with new ways to teach the grade three curriculum. We will focus on balanced literacy and engaging lessons to teach the comprehension strategies for both fiction and non-fiction texts as well as examine the mathematics curriculum and the three-part math lesson. We will also delve into other subject areas, cross-curricular activities and provide you with strategies to prepare your students for EQAO. You will leave the session with practical activities that can be easily implemented in your classroom along with the confidence and motivation to begin a new year in grade three.

Grade 4
Joining in on this fun and practical session will provide teachers with an overview of the grade four landscape and its unique features. Together we will explore curriculum expectations and identify core and supplemental resources. In addition, using best practices and a hands-on approach we will delve into planning, assessment, as well as organizational and management strategies. Special attention will be placed on how you can implement a balanced literacy block and the three-part math lesson into your daily plans. We will also discuss big idea planning and how to integrate S.E.S., science, religion and the arts across the curriculum. You will walk away from this session, with the confidence that you have ready to use resources and ideas to motivate your grade four students.

Whether you are new to grade eight or a veteran teacher, this session is for you! This session will focus on the effective delivery of the math and language programs. It will also include cross-curricular connections and teaching through problem solving. We will also share our ideas for sacramental preparation and resources for other subject areas. You will leave with unit plans and assessment pieces and a toolkit of resources. You will have a fountain of knowledge and the confidence and motivation to begin a new year in grade eight. Please bring a flashdrive (USB memory stick) as all hand-outs will be given electronically.
