NEW Kindergarten
Are you new to Kindergarten or looking for fresh ideas? Are you looking for ways to enhance learning in a 2 ½ hour day? Are you looking for meaningful learning activities that can be easily used by your students? Would you like the opportunity to make-and-take resources for your Kindergarten classroom? If you answered yes to these questions, this session is for you! Emphasis will be on how to organize student learning that fosters independence in our youngest students. As primary teachers know, centres-based learning offers the opportunity to interact one-on-one with your students. It allows you to gain valuable insights and information about each child. Over the two days, we will discuss and make centres that are curriculum focused and practical. Examples of centres that spark children’s imagination and learning will be shared. Assessment tools and strategies will be demonstrated and Kindergarten resources will be explored. A materials fee of $10.00 will be collected at the session.

Grade 3
This session is exactly what you need to get ready for grade 3! This session is for beginning teachers, those who are new to grade 3, or for grade 3 teachers looking for new ideas and resources. We will begin with an overview of the grade 3 curriculum with a focus on PAR, Core and supplementary resources for all subjects will be introduced and displayed. We will explore the components of a comprehensive literacy program including timetabling and organizing of your literacy block reading and writing workshops. We will investigate assessment, evaluation and reporting. Sample report card comment library and rubrics for learning skills for each of the terms will be provided. Rubrics developed for evaluating each Nelson Math mid-chapter review, chapter task and chapter test will also be provided. Handouts and suggested culminating activities will be provided for all subjects to help you prepare for an exciting and productive year!

This two-day session will help to develop a solid foundation in the beginning days of the school year in order to implement great programming, assessment, and current educational practices in your grade 6 classroom. Our focus will be on fun and effective literacy strategies that in turn will aid in the planning of a balanced literacy program as well as prepare our students for success on EQAO. Through interactive and engaging activities, we will examine the characteristics of a junior learner while exploring the grade 6 curriculum, relevant instructional practices, assessment, cross-curricular planning and cross-divisional planning if needed.

This two-day session will also outline a framework for structuring the many facets of this exciting year, making special reference to the theme of 'Becoming adult through Christ'.
