Dufferin-Peel Catholic students showcase their technological skills in local competition​

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board's 2017 Catholic Technological Skills Competition will be held onMarch 8 (Secondary Level) at Philip Pocock Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga and on March 28 (Elementary Level) at St. Philip Elementary School in Mississauga.

Dufferin-Peel students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in this multi-trade and technology competition, which serves as a qualification round for the Skills Canada Provincial Competition. Approximately 400 students will compete in over 40 trade and technological areas, including: robotics, workplace safety, 3D character animation, baking, carpentry, hair styling, and television and video production. Representatives from local businesses and colleges will judge the competition, and the top students will qualify to move on to the provincial finals being held in Toronto in May.

The Catholic Skills Competition provides experiential learning opportunities, offers awareness in Technological Education, and opportunities to explore careers in various trade sectors. Students showcase their God-given gifts and talents while developing their knowledge, technical and essential skills in their chosen sector competition, as individuals or in teams.  These events promote positive school engagement and build community partnerships through mentorship.

Students who are successful at the provincial competition will advance to the Skills Canada National Competition, where they will have the opportunity to compete against students from across Canada. 

EVENT:                 DPCDSB 2017 Catholic Technological Skills Competition

SECONDARY:      Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.                             
                              Philip Pocock Catholic Secondary School, 4555 Tomken Road, Mississauga

ELEMENTARY:    Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.                             
                              St. Philip Elementary School, 345 Fairview Road West, Mississauga

Skills Canada is a national, not-for-profit organization that works with employers, educators, labour groups and governments to promote skilled trades and technological careers among Canadian youth.
