Fire / Emergency Alarm

When the fire alarm sounds all staff and students must evacuate the school building. Teachers will take class attendance when outside the building.

It is a Criminal Offence to Falsely Trigger a Fire Alarm System. Students deliberately initiating a false alarm will be suspended and reported to the Police and Fire Departments, as appropriate.

Lockdown and "Hold and Secure"

When the school engages in a lockdown it is a serious event and all students are expected to adhere to the school's emergency response in a mature manner. Failure to adhere to the response places all individuals in the building and law enforcement officials at serious risk.  Students not respecting Lockdown / Hold and Secure procedures will be subject to discipline under the school's Catholic Code of Conduct.

Video Surveillance System

A video surveillance system is in place at Cardinal Ambrozic.  The video cameras are located only in public places in and around the school.  The presence of the system dramatically decreases vandalism and provides a safer learning environment for our students and staff. The key to a safe school is student engagement in activities that provide a dynamic school culture rooted in our school virtues.

Sabrina's Law: Medical Danger –Anaphylaxis

There are a number of students at Cardinal Ambrozic who have life threatening allergies to food products including peanuts and all types of nuts. If peanut butter or even the smallest amount of peanut oil or any type of nut enters the body by touching or eating, severe life threatening symptoms occur and without immediate medical treatment the student could die. Our concern is for foods where peanuts or nuts might be a "hidden" ingredient, and where cross contamination may occur. For example, computer keys or a ball previously handled another student who had peanut/nut oil on their hands could be a serious hazard to a student who has anaphylaxis. The school cafeteria, vending machines and the food our hospitality class uses is nut free and adheres to Sabrina's Law and the Ontario Ministry of Education, School Food & Beverage Policy: Policy/Program Memorandum 150. We do realize this request may require added effort for you and your child when packing lunch and snacks and we wish to express sincere appreciation for your support and understanding regarding this life-threatening condition. Students requiring administration of injection medication (epi-pen) who have not already contacted the main office for the appropriate emergency forms are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.  It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure the school has up to date information on an annual basis.

There are also those within the building that have an allergy to Carrots – therefore we request that Carrots and/or products containing Carrots not be brought into the school environmen
