Black Futures Speakers Series: Nurturing Hope 2021
Each February, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board organizes the Black Futures Symposium as a forum for secondary students to learn, celebrate and embrace the past, present and future contributions of Black communities in Canada. Due to the pandemic protocols this year's symposium looks different than previous years. Instead of a symposium, a speaker's series has been created and teachers will be able to select a variety of subject specific sessions to view with their students. The speakers series is pre-recorded and moderated by members of the Student Senate. The speakers series will be recorded throughout Quad 3 & 4 and will be made available to schools periodically. We currently have 9 sessions available for teachers to use. You can access videos on the main page of the DPCDSB Program Equitable and Inclusive Education Department page in the Black Futures Speakers Series: Nurturing Hope 2021 Resources folder at the top of the main page.
This series has been intentionally designed to be used beyond the month of February. Our goal is to expand conversations surrounding Black history, heritage, and identity as a way of encouraging educators to commit to learning and teaching about the historical and contemporary experiences, achievements, stories, narratives, and histories of Black Canadians and Peoples in the curriculum year-round.
