Welcome to the Office of Chaplaincy at St. Marguerite d'Youville Secondary School!
My name is Andrew Selvam, and it is a blessing and privilege to be the Chaplaincy Leader at this vibrant, diverse and faith-filled community. I hope this page will offer you some insight into the mission of our school community, into the role of chaplaincy at the school, and ways to get involved
The chaplaincy office is next to the chapel on the first floor of the school. You are welcome to drop by office before and after school, at lunch or between classes to say hello or share something on your mind. My door is always open!
The goals and responsibilities of the chaplaincy program here at DY include:
- Caring for the School Chapel
- Pastoral Care and Counselling, including faith development, bereavement, tragic event response, and finding clarification and relevance of Church teachings in day-to-day school operations
- Facilitating grade-based retreat experiences that allow students an opportunity to move away from the regular day and provide an opportunity for a deeper relationship with God, oneself and others
- Facilitating prayer and experiences for staff and students, that include Liturgies of the Word, Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation and other opportunities
- Daily Morning Prayer and Reflection
- Organizing School Wide Projects and Opportunities for Service in our Local and Global Community
- Leading a Chaplaincy Team to help facilitate many of these opportunities for other students and increase the faith life of the school
