“Meet the Chaplaincy Leader”
Hi, my name is Joe Sherlock, and I am honoured to be the Chaplaincy Leader at St. Aloysius Gonzaga C.S.S. I joined the staff of St. Aloysius Gonzaga in September 2001 and enjoyed teaching here until 2023 when I became the Chaplaincy Leader. We are blessed here at Gonzaga to have many staff and students who want to share and express their faith with each other and with communities outside our school. We have an amazing parish staff at Merciful Redeemer Parish, and we enjoy a strong relationship with the parish community. I feel very privileged to be part of this community and look forward to working with our amazing staff and student body now and for years to come.

“Who was St. Aloysius Gonzaga?”
Aloysius Gonzaga was born in Italy in 1568 to a wealthy and renowned family. Instead of enjoying his family’s wealth and the privileges that came with it, he gave everything up to grow closer to Christ. In 1585, at the age of 17 Aloysius joined the Jesuit order (Society of Jesus) founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola. While he studied in Rome, he often cared for victims of the plague. Eventually, he contracted the plague himself and died on June 21st, 1591. In 1726 Aloysius was canonized and shortly after he was declared the patron saint of youth. The motto of the Jesuit order and the motto of our school is: Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, “For the Greater Glory of God”.
