Volunteer Hours Update for Graduates:
In response to the ongoing challenges presented by Covid 19, the graduation requirement of community hours has been reduced to 20 hours for the graduates of 2021-2022 only.
For all students:
In response to the ongoing challenges presented by Covid 19, students may earn hours in 2021-2022 as follows:
1. A student aged 14 years and older may count up to 10 hours from paid employment towards their earned hours at the discretion of the principal. A reflection exercise must be completed indicating how their work contributed to the service of others.
2. Duties normally performed at home, such as helping a sibling with homework, or walking a sibling to and from school, may count as hours. Schools may also waive restrictions that do not allow students to earn hours during the time allotted for the instructional program of the school day. The principal will indicate which activities may be recognized in their school community.
3. Students may wish to consider virtual volunteering, or outdoor activities such as picking up litter, or virtual fundraising events, or connecting with seniors.
Students should check with their guidance counsellor and/or principal to see what will count towards their volunteer hours for this school year.
Students in grades 9-11, please submit your Community Service Hours only when you have completed ALL 40 hours. Grade 12 students, please submit once you have completed ALL 20 hours (as per Ministry directive for this school year) to firstname.lastname@example.org.
