JAYHAWK ATHLETIC UPDATE
Junior Volleyball
Instead of fielding teams in the Mississauga South league this season, Mrs. Gremmen and Mr. Zubac organized tryouts and selected two junior co-ed teams to practice, work on skills and compete against each other in organized games, laying the groundwork for future Jayhawk volleyball teams. The kids had loads of fun as they bumped, volleyed, served and even spiked their way through the month of October. Great job boys and girls! Special thanks to Alyssa for her leadership and work as a mentor coach to the junior players.
Intermediate Volleyball
This year's edition of the Intermediate Volleyball teams had a lot of fun as they improved their skills and competed against other teams in the St. Martin's division. The players showed great improvement in their abilities, culminating in both the boys and girls playing their strongest match of the season in their final game against St. Catherine. Great job and good luck to our Grade 8's as they head off to high school volleyball tryouts next year!
Houseleague Update
Houseleagues are active for yet another season here at St. John 23rd. The action began in the fall with Grade 6-8 Outdoor Soccer, where the Eagles emerged victorious. The action then shifted indoors where the Grades 3-5 had their chance to kick the ball around for some great soccer action. The Eagles yet again emerged as winners, completing the rare soccer double of Intermediate and Junior Soccer victories in the same season. Action now continues with European Handball as we approach the halfway point of the Houseleague season. The Eagles lead the overall points race as of early February but the other three teams are not out of it yet so stay tuned to see who lifts the coveted Houseleague trophy at the end of year assembly!
See you at the game!
