English Language Learners
English Language Learners at Notre Dame are a vibrant part of our school community. Notre Dame is richer for the presence of our ELL students, and our school benefits from their many different perspectives and experiences gained prior to becoming Notre Dame Knights. They encourage all of us to be more collaborative and more effective as communicators and responsible citizens, believing as our faith teaches, that we "shall love the Lord [our God] with all [our] heart...soul...mind...and...strength...[and] ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these” (NRSVCE, Mark 12.30-31).
We offer the following multi-level classes to support our ELL students as they develop language proficiency:
ESLAO – Beginning Communication in English
ESLBO – English in Daily Life
ESLCO – English for School and Work
ESLDO – Study Skills in English
ESLEO – Bridge to English
ELL Courses are arranged according to levels. As students work through the levels, they develop language / academic proficiency, while also successfully transitioning into a variety of mainstream courses. ELL students participate in the life of the school, growing as creative, and holistic thinkers, who are self-directed and responsible life-long learners.
