Notre Dame - English Department
Each student travels their own unique path while at Notre Dame. As they learn about themselves and others, the English department walks with them, engaging students in lessons that support ND's initiatives around equity, diversity, and inclusion. As we share stories, written and spoken, students grow as discerning believers who become comfortable expressing their faith in multiple ways.
The English Department works to meet the diverse needs of all learners while exploring our shared connections and our differences in perspective; we centre 21st Century learning helping students grow as reflective, creative, holistic thinkers who communicate effectively.
Our curriculum is committed to actively developing knowledge and skills in the areas of "listening and speaking, reading and writing, viewing and presenting" (www.dcp.edu.gov.on.ca/en/curriculum/secondary-english). As life-long learners, we are proud of constantly evolving and working on supporting Board initiatives as collaborative contributors focused on the teaching of diverse texts, new courses, and current literacies.
We walk with our students as they become empathetic, responsible citizens who actively live their faith,"for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline" (NRSVCE, 2 Timothy. 1.7).
