Our Lady of Good Voyage School
Our Lady of Good Voyage School is an elementary school of approximately 200 students, Kindergarten to Grade Eight, who come from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds. The community is over twenty-five years old, an active community within the former town of Streetsville, located north of the centre of the City of Mississauga.
Our Lady of Good Voyage was established to support Catholic parents in their responsibility for the spiritual religious, moral, academic and physical needs of their children in accordance with the teachings of the Church. The school community at Our Lady of Good Voyage is committed to the search for excellence, the uniqueness of the individual and the education of the whole person. We provide a safe and comfortable learning environment where models of Gospel values and Catholic doctrines, teachings and beliefs are an integral part of the daily life of our school. All activities at Our Lady of Good Voyage-academic and pastoral work, extracurricular and intracurricular, prayer, and worship, administration and management- help to prepare out students for their lives as Catholics in the community.
Our students come to us with a variety of strengths and needs, with their Catholic faith as their common bond. Our prayer life, liturgical celebrations, the sacraments, and our faith and values system form the foundation of our school program. At Our Lady of Good Voyage, we are proud of our balanced religion, academic, arts, technology, and athletics program. We offer students a well-rounded and value-centre education to help them make good choices for the future. The curriculum planned and provided in the school is broad, balanced, and relevant to the needs and aspirations of all our students. Accordingly, appropriate assessment procedures are employed regularly to motivate and encourage student success. To ensure coherence and wholeness, subjects are taught against the background of the Ontario Curriculum, the Gospel values of Jesus Christ and sound educational practices.
The staff of Our Lady of Good Voyage is committed to providing a curriculum that reflects the Catholic values of the Board. They are committed to following the Family initiatives through our School plan in the areas of Literacy, Numeracy and Assessment and Evaluation. In order to follow these commitments it is necessary for the staff to attend a number of after school workshops to continue to be aware of the curriculum initiatives and innovative ways to deliver the curriculum.
Our intermediate students will attend St. Joseph's High School on Creditview. St. Joseph's High School is a large school with a full range of programs.
Our sports teams are an important part of our extra curricular activities. Teachers are very committed to coaching the students in all areas of sports. Our school is well known for their skill levels in the sports field.
As a community, we assist other communities who are less fortunate. Students are often involved in collecting food for food drives, buying gifts for those families in need and donating monies to Catholic Charities.
Our School Council works closely with the community, principal and staff to support school programs and to provide the best possible learning environment for our students.
Our Lady of Good Voyage,
we beseech you to be our companion
on our voyage through life,
that we too may reach the happy end.
