50th Anniversary part of DPCDSB's Catholic Education Week celebrations - May 5-10

Schools across the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) will host special events and activities during Catholic Education Week May 5-10, a number of which are tied to the DPCDSB's 50th Anniversary. This year, marks 50 years since the Dufferin-Peel County Roman Catholic Separate School Board was established by the merger of eight small separate boards.

"Catholic Education Week is a great time to celebrate some of the DPCDSB's 50th Anniversary events. Not only, does it provide us with the opportunity to celebrate our history, it allows us to reflect on the impact that a Dufferin-Peel Catholic education has had on our students and communities since our inception," said Marianne Mazzorato, Director of Education. "We invite all members of our community, especially our parents/guardians and families, to participate in the events and activities planned for their school communities throughout the week."

This year's theme for Catholic Education Week is Living as Joyful Disciples – our promise, as a Catholic community, to keep Catholic faith traditions alive and well in our Catholic schools. Many schools will host events and activities reflective of this theme, including plays, art displays, celebratory Masses, fundraisers, and motivational speakers. Catholic Education Week celebrations also include the DPCDSB's Annual ShareLife Gala on May 3, 50th Anniversary Art, Essay and Video Contest and a Catholic guest speaker tour at schools.

DPCDSB will also launch a social media campaign on Twitter, called #MyCatholicEducation, from April 29 to May 10. Students, staff, parents/guardians and alumni are asked to reflect on "What does Catholic education mean to you?" or "How has your Catholic education helped to shape the person you are today?" and share thoughts through tweets, pictures and videos using the hashtag #MyCatholicEducation and #DPCDSB50Years.

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of the largest and most diverse school boards in Ontario. It serves over 81,000 students in 151 schools located throughout Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville. With over 11,000 employees, DPCDSB is also one of the largest employers in the region.
