COMMUNITY INFORMATION BULLETIN
June 2, 2020
We would like to provide you with some updates on a few items with more detailed information to follow in the coming days.
SUPPORTS AND RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES
Images, stories and the crippling and disturbing impact of anti-Black racism have proliferated media outlets over the past week, affecting many of us profoundly, including students, families and staff members. The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) has compiled resources and supports for students, families and others and will be sending a follow-up communication to families and staff. As always, we encourage students to reach out to a trusted adult, or member of their school staff to assist. If parents/guardians would like to connect with a member of their child's school, please do not hesitate to do so.
Graduation is a time to celebrate a special and sacred milestone of achievement. As has been communicated in the past, school graduations where students and their families can physically attend a ceremony will be held in the fall or whenever it is safe to do so. In the meantime, school administrators will lead and facilitate the creation of a graduation video to be shared with graduates and their families prior to the end of the school year.
Each DPCDSB school will produce its own distinct video, which will include remarks and messages from the principal, Catholic School Council Chair, local area trustee(s), parish priest, a valedictorian address and the naming of the school's graduating students. Local mayors and Members of Provincial Parliament (MPP) have also been invited to participate. We hope that this experience and keepsake will provide an appropriate acknowledgement to our graduates during this time when it is not possible to be together. More information regarding the video and its release will be communicated to you through your school principal.
Awards will not be announced in the graduation or farewell video. All schools will upload a list of awards to the school website, including Honour Roll, Ontario Scholar, other awards and scholarships of distinction, athletics and extracurricular awards. Messages regarding the list of award recipients will be communicated to students and families through School Messenger and social media. When it is safe to hold a graduation ceremony that allows for attendance by students and their families, award winners will be announced and hard copies of awards and certificates will be distributed, including plaques, certificates and medals.
RETRIEVAL OF STUDENTS' PERSONAL EFFECTS
The DPCDSB has finalized a public health authority-approved plan for the retrieval of students' personal effects from schools. Communication will come forward to families on the process and protocol from your school principal.
Thank you for your attention to these items. We pray that all members of the DPCDSB community stay safe and well as we work together through this ongoing period of pandemic.
