Illuminating Truths: Transcending the Optic of Reconciliation
2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the federal government’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report. This report was released by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) which was established in 2007 as a result of the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement, the largest class-action settlement in Canadian history. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission was established to facilitate reconciliation among former Residential School students, their families, their communities, and all Canadians.
On September 23, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) will host an event at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre called Illuminating Truths: Transcending the Optic of Reconciliation. The event will showcase Indigenous creative figures whose work expands the legacy of the TRC, reminding us that we are all connected, responsible, and belong to a shared foundation.
Secondary students representing all 26 DPCDSB secondary schools will attend this two-hour event featuring performances by Indigenous artists including: Drives the Common Man, DJ Classic Roots, Rebecca Strong, Cris Derksen, and more. In addition to the students attending in-person, the event will be livestreamed to all DPCDSB secondary schools.
This event takes place during Truth and Reconciliation Week to offer students a glimpse into the beauty and brilliance of Indigenous Peoples.
